As somebody who really enjoys watching true crime stories and crime thrillers in general, I thought I would give Lover, Stalker, Killer a shot.
The story revolves around the main character, Dave Kroupa and his girlfriend that he met through a dating site. Kroupa and his wife were going through a tough divorce, but that didn’t stop him from wanting to test the waters and find somebody new. Kroupa then picks up his phone and starts exploring on dating sites where he matched with a woman named Liz Golyar. The online relationship seemed normal at first until Kroupa and Golyar began to drift a bit. After Kroupa desides to move on, Goylar ends up finding out about his new love interest, Cari, and she is not happy about it one bit.
From here, the story truly takes a turn for the worst. And then it gets crazier and crazier.
Documentary director Sam Hobkinson did a wonderful job with keeping the film interesting and engaging. I really enjoyed watching Lover, Stalker, Killer considering there were many plot twists and thrills. I also liked that part of the film that included the actual people from the story, which made it helpful to hear real-life perspectives. Being able to listen to the victims’ sides of the story added more detail and made the documentary even more interesting and a bit creepy.
I recommend this document to those who also love to watch true crime stories as much as I do. I have watched many crime films and I have to say, Lover, Stalker, Killer is easily one of the better ones. It’s very eye-opening in how it deals with the subject of talking with strangers online. It spreads awareness about all the negative things that could go wrong. The internet is dangerous and sketchy, so watching this film helped me realize to be careful who you meet online because things can end in the worst, most traumatic ways possible.
Lover, Stalker, Killer is streaming on Netflix and ready to be watched by more true crime lovers. Go ahead and give it a shot like I did.
