Female superhero, ‘Wonder Woman’ dominates at summer box office

This summer the world has had the privilege to see the greatest female led superhero movie of all time: “Wonder Woman.” Star actress Gal Gadot portrays Diana Prince, also known as Wonder Woman, in the summer’s biggest and baddest blockbuster smash.

“Wonder Woman” is a particularly special movie, as it is the first female dominated superhero film. Sure there have been other strong female characters in the super-genre, Marvel’s Black Widow and Scarlet Witch, DC’s Harley Quinn, Lois Lane and Amanda Waller, but none compare to this standalone super goddess.

“Wonder Woman” scored a solid 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, matching the score of the first Avengers movie and surpassing the second. Previous DC movies haven’t done so well on the scoreboard, as nearly all films within the DC Extended Universe have received a score lower than 30%. This is known as the DC curse, which has finally been broken. DC is known to appeal more to the fans than to the critics, but director Patty Jenkins definitely knew what she was doing and managed to please both crowds.

Actress Gal Gadot first brought “Wonder Woman” to the big screen in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and to some was considered the best part of the movie. It’s hard to argue against that, as Gadot’s performance is outstanding in both action films. Being a strong female lead means she sets the bar for others to follow, but unfortunately for the others, she set that bar extremely high.

Gadot is now the role model of girls and young women everywhere. She is not only a symbol for beauty and charm, but has also become a symbol for strength and wisdom as well.

As for the films numbers, Wonder Woman was the number one summer blockbuster bringing in $103,251,471 opening weekend, with a movie budget of $149 million. It may not have beaten out the Avengers movies, but it’s still very impressive on any scale.
