April 16 truly is a legendary day for the five members of The Summer Set as they released their third studio album “Legendary”.
This is the first album members Brian Dales (vocals), Jess Bowen (drums), Stephen Gomez (bass), John Gomez (guitar) and Josh Montgomery (guitar) had the pleasure of releasing while signed to Fearless Records.
The first single and first track “Maybe Tonight” is a song that sets the tone for the entire of the album.
“Maybe Tonight” is the band’s new anthem as they started a new project called the Half Moon Kids. The lyrics refelct the members’ new outlook on life to try to bring out the best in yourself and each other and make the best of every single day – a song that anyone can relate to.
The second single “Boomerang” is a catchy love song that will get stuck in your head – much like the rest of the album.
Dia Frampton of Meg & Dia appeared once again, singing guest vocals on the song “Heart On The Floor”. Frampton was also featured on the song “Where Are You Now” from The Summer Set’s first album “Love Like This”.
With Dales being obsessed with How I Met Your Mother, it is no surprise that he incorporated references to the popular television show into a few of the songs. In closing song “Legendary”, The Summer Set even mentions the show by name as well as a few jokes from the show thus giving the song and the album its title.
However, if one is unfamilar with the television show, that does not take away from the enjoyment of the song.
Although the album lies more in the pop genre when compared to The Summer Set’s previous work (something I personally was not expecting), this band is definitely on their way to the top.
If you are looking for that one special album to jam to with the windows down in your car over the summer, “Legendary” is it.
