With the season over, some runners are preparing for track in the spring, while others hang up their running shoes until next season.
The girls cross-country team had a pretty good season overall and junior Marissa DePietro and freshman Jeanne McCormick shined as they were the two runners that qualified for sectionals.
At sectionals, McCormick placed 73 with a time of 19:42 and DePietro came in 111 with a finishing time of 20:32.
Even though neither qualified at sectionals, coach Mark Heintz believes that the triumphs and hardships faced by the team has shaped them for next season.
“Now that they understand the expectations of the summer, I think we’ll be a much stronger team next year,” Heintz said.
The players agree that the season went really well.
“I think we did really well this season,” DePietro said. “Everyone improved their times by a lot and we were all just positive.”
Running for miles each day really creates a strong bond with one another and that is just one of many things the team will miss.
“I’m going to miss all of my friends and running together all the time,” McCormick said. “The bus rides not so much, but definitely just the team bond.”
